A leading authority on music distribution and new media marketing, Mr Bazalgette has spent nearly 20 years in the entertainment and new media industries. He has been head of Music Choice Europe since July 1999. Joining in 1993 as director of strategy and business affairs, he designed the company's international cable and satellite distribution strategy and became the driving force behind its European music copyright negotiations.
In 1996, Mr Bazalgette became director of sales and marketing. Since then he has repositioned Music Choice as Europe's premier digital audio broadcaster. Before joining Music Choice, he specialised in international media and entertainment consulting.
A career in the entertainment industry has doubtless influenced Mr Bazalgette's eclectic taste in music - everything from The Fall to Puccini can be found in his collection. His other passion is football, with Brentford Football Club being his long-standing favourite.
www.deja.com
Deja News has a simple but comprehensive site that provides discussion forums covering every topic you can imagine, from UK citizenship enquiries to the best selection of The Beatles' anomalies. It includes feedback on Music Choice and the digital TV sector and, as such, is an excellent way to keep abreast of consumer opinion. One does have to be careful not to assume that these discussion groups are genuinely representative, but they can be a great early warning system for problems. (The site was recently acquired by Google but is still accessible at the Deja address.)
www.music365.com
I remain determined to stay true to my younger spirit and keep up with what's new and breaking. Music365.com is easy to use and navigate, although I sometimes get the feeling that it's a light snack compared to the printed music press - but perhaps more digestible for that. Reading the music press is definitely one of the areas where I have moved away from print towards the virtual. It works much better for my requirements.
www.gpgrapevine.co.uk
Nothing can beat a good old-fashioned community of interest. The Griffin Park Grapevine is little more than a modern bulletin board, but for a passionate Brentford Football Club fan like myself, it's a great way of keeping up with what's going on in the club - or what the fans fear might be happening. It changes every day, so there's always something to come back for, which is more than you can say for most sites!
www.fastnbulbous.com
This is a bizarre but fantastic music site that provides recommendations on various esoterica (music style) from around the world. Alt country, alt rock, reggae, jazz, latin, psychedelia, punk - it's all here. US Radio DJ Fester reviews hundreds of new albums throughout the year, and adds a bit of fun with his obsession with Captain Beefheart, the inspiration for the title of the site.
www.londonstockexchange.com
Since we floated Music Choice last autumn, I have been using the LSE site to follow the market and our relative performance. Of course, I have to restrain myself in order not to get too involved in it, as most share movements have little to do with sentiment about Music Choice and more to do with the overall sector or particular transactions which have a big impact on a relatively closely held stock.
www.streamingmedia.com
Streaming Media is an up-to-date source for news, information, articles and directories about the streaming media industry. In my opinion, it is the best place to go for a full insight into the future of online entertainment - and in the future this is going to be about streaming, not downloading.
www.launch.com
Launch provides a streaming audio service for a wide array of music genres, as well as news and reviews. As internet connections get faster with broadband, services such as this will become increasingly available.
