Strong brand image sees off rivals

Nokia may be the world's biggest maker of mobile phones and it may have one of the strongest brands, but there are still plenty of people who think it is Japanese, not Finnish, because of its name. So many, in fact, that one Nokia executive introduces his US presentations by saying Nokia stands for "North Korean Investment Agency". "Only joking," he adds, when he sees the startled reaction. "We're Finnish really." It's a neat way of driving the point home, but the surprising thing is that anyone should still think of Nokia as being anything other than Finnish after its successes over the last decade....more
