
Science experiment that paid off
Nowhere has the rise in academic enterprise been faster than at Glasgow University, an institution with a good research record now earning a handsome deal from innovation. Three years ago it owned intellectual property worth less than £300,000. Today that figure is £100m. In August 1997, Prof Sir Graeme Davies, the vice-chancellor, backed a research and enterprise unit dedicated to winning the best deals from business for its technologies.
