Background information: Hillary Clinton is the first First Lady elected to the United States Senate and the first woman elected as Senator in New York. A lawyer by training, she is the wife of former US President Bill Clinton. Upon taking office in 1993, President Clinton appointed the First Lady to the Task Force on National Health Care Reform. Mrs Clinton continues to be an advocate for improving health care and providing health insurance for Americans. Her commitment to children has led her to champion an effort to increase immunisations for pre-school age children and push for an expansion of children's health insurance coverage.
